Shun Johnson: Diva with a Diagnosis

Shun Johnson

This beautiful woman is no other than five time Ovarian Cancer survivor Shun Johnson. Although she has overcame many battles with cancer she still has plenty of fight in her. While currently going through treatment she started a blog called " Diva with a Diagnosis in which she is a source of inspiration for woman battling diseases from cancer- mental illness. 

She constantly posts inspirational stories and tries to uplift a some what forgotten about community. There are very few communities like the one Shun created and through her being fearless and stepping out the shadows she is able to touch many lives. 

Before there was a " Diva with a Diagnosis " blog there was Dzynz custom bling. A business Shun started while enduring treatment some years ago. Dzynz custom bling began when Shun was in treatment and not having much to do noticed a fellow survivor blinging out certain items. She approached the woman and her new found friend taught her how to bling out everything from t-shirts to shoes. 

 Shun used this new gift to not only create a business but to shed light on her story. This amazing Diva is nothing short of spectacular with each battle she turns her trial into a tribulation. There is a saying turn your Test into a Testimony and that is exactly what Shun did. She not only did it once with Dzynz Custom Bling but twice when she released  her "Diva with a Diagnosis" blog. Shun gives hope not only to Ovarian Cancer survivors but she gives hope to all survivors. She is a advocate for any and all cancers including anyone diagnosis with any type of illnesses.

What is your favorite scripture and why?

Roman 8:18  These present sufferings are nothing compared to the glory that is coming.  I love this because this scripture tells you that no matter what you are currently going through is nothing compared to where God is taking you.  If you stay moldable, pliable, and willing to changing, you won’t be at this same place next year.

How will you turn this trial in your life into a triumph?

I have started a Blog called Diva With A Diagnosis, and with this blog it is dedicated to anyone that has been diagnosis with any type of illness from depression to lupus, to cancer, etc. it’s an outlet of hope.  This is a group for anyone to ask for help or just to get some motivational words or be a motivation to others. We are all here to be a light of encouragement to others no matter what you may be going through.

What inspired you to become an advocate this time versus your past battles?

My diagnosis is highly sophisticated this time around, I want to make sure I help someone else to be aware of the signs and symptoms. By being aware of the signs other woman can catch it early so they will not go through what I went and go through. I want to bring awareness and spread the word to everyone that will lend a ear.

Do you have a support system of survivors if so why is it important for survivors to support each other?

Yes, and because this helps us stay positive and have that encouragement to keep fighting, because we too will be a survivor.

What advice would you give women going through a battle of cancer?

 My advice to someone going through cancer is to pray and rely on God in this time for comfort. Always try to stay positive and keep your head up. Something else I will suggest is having a great support team. You will need your family , friends and fellow survivors to help you through these trying times.

Why do you think people refer to having cancer has a battle?

Because we are fighting for our life, we are soldiers in this war on this battlefield and you want to be the last soldier standing not Cancer.

Jashawn Mykel: Single Dad of Three

Before Jashawn Mykel became a single dad of three he had to overcome some difficult times. Shortly after graduating he heard that Sunday’s Best was holding auditions and being a singer he decided to audition. Although he didn’t make it far in the competition this didn't stop him from becoming a local celebrity. Doors began to open for Jashawn and more opportunities began to present itself. During this time Jashawn was rather happy and even auditioned for the Big Brother Reality Series.

After a while all the hype calmed down and he began living a normal life. He waited patiently for call backs and nothing seemed to come through. He became disappointed and wondered why God would take him to such heights to simply close doors. 

The closing of doors was just the beginning… life was about to deal him a devastating hand of cards. He began to lose everything including his home and he had to move in with his cousin. While living with his cousin and working he received a phone call from the Department of Human Services. In this call he was informed that his sister was in jail and her three kids were being split up in the foster care system. It broke Jashawns heart knowing that his niece and nephews were being split up into three different homes.

Upon receiving this phone call he decided to step up and become a foster parent to the children. He thought the journey would be easy he would simply sign a few document s and ta da the process was over. It was actually the opposite...for months Jashawn had to go through red tape and attend court appearances. He had to find a home that was at least a three bedroom, he had to get renters insurance and attend parenting classes. 

When asked if he believes that it was worth it going through the red tape he responded “I applaud D.H.S for the programs, qualifications, and standards that they have in place in order for one to become a foster parent. You are given the most precious gift in life which is a child and you should be worthy of the title of being called a parent.” Finally after going through the process he became a foster parent and overnight Father of three.

Although the light at the end of tunnel seemed closer than before… Life had one more hand of cards to deal Jashawn. This last misfortune was in the form of him losing his job. While working a job for ninety days his probation period came up and he was let go. 

This was a devastating blow to Jashawn he was now the father of three with a new house and no job. During this time Jashawn leaned on his go to scripturese Psalms 34:1 and Psalms 37:1-7. He told me "during that time I had to Sink or Swim the only thing I had was my Faith all I could do was trust God."

Jashawn trusted God through it all and although he did not understand in the beginning... he stood firm in his faith and continued to endure. He later told me “ When I look back I realized that God was closing those doors because he knew I would become a foster parent. See I didn’t understand at the time but it became very clear once I received that phone call from D.H.S. why my dreams were put on halt”

Jashawn having such a strong faith makes sure that his children have a firm foundation in Christ. He attends church with his children regularly to ensure that they have a unshakable faith like himself. Jashawn is very transparent about his experience and wants to inspire others with his testimony. 

Jashawn is committed to being the best foster parent that he can be. He attends his classes to ensure he is highly educated and prepared for any future red tape that comes his way. He takes good care of his children and even gets up at 4:30 a.m. to iron their clothes for school. 

He said in a Facebook post “

The Reason I wake up every morning at 4:30 am! If you prepare them for Success, they will be SUCCESSFUL! Love what you have been BLESSED with! Have a Great Day! Ah Now!” Although the children are fed breakfast at school Jashawn still takes the time to prepare them a homemade meal. One thing you will rarely see is one plate prepared for one person. You can bet your bottom dollar you will see four plates showing the meal he prepared for himself and his three children.He even posts on social media some of his homemade dinners. 

For example he is always having a family night which is a  kid friendly meal that can range from chili dogs to tacos.I know one thing whenever I visit Little Rock, Arkansas I know whose house I will be having dinner at. Forget the Cheddars, Chipotles and upscale restaurants I will be at no other than Jashawn Mykel home eating fried chicken and mashed potatoes.

 With all jokes aside this has definitely been a winding journey from being on Sunday's Best to becoming homeless and losing everything. Even through the good the bad and the ugly  Jashawn stood firm in his faith. 

He told me " I realized that everything that I have learned since being in this new phase of my life has taught me another side of life. I now understand that change is never bad.The main thing that motivates me is my will to live. Regardless of what has been said about me, what I have done in the past, or what others feel I should do, I still have not given up in the fight." 

No matter what cards life deals Jashawn he says that without his struggles he wouldn’t be the person he is today. Jashawn has been jobless for six months now and is still going strong. 1. What was the hardest part of your journey?
The hardest part about this time in my life was going from a single man to becoming a father of three in a matter of hours. What I will say is that the losing of my  job or having the door to a dream being shut is that it was not big enough for me! 

In other words it was not my " Ah Now" time to have a job or to pursue my dreams. Everything in life happens for a reason and even though we may not understand at that moment, in the end you will appreciate your earlier no's for your current Yes's.

2.What advice can you give to someone who has lost it all?
 Advice that I could give to someone that has lost it all is to keep on fighting! The easiest thing in life to do is to give up. Just because your past situations didn't work for you, doesn't mean that your present is not going to work for you.

 A lot of times we have to understand that situations we face, comes only to make us better. If life was meant to be over, then we wouldn’t be still being here to tell about it. Lastly I would tell them that little faith produce little rewards but major faith produce major manifestations.

3. Tell me three reasons why you tell your story?
Three Reasons I tell my story:

  •To inspire people to keep believing and know that a better day is coming.

  •To let young people and older people know that regardless of where you come from, you still can be successful.

   •Lastly I tell my story so people can understand that in order to enjoy the true abundance of life, you must work hard and to continue to fight because Victory can only come once you start the fight!

4. How has life changed for the better?
Life has changed for the better because I now have a new reason to live. I have gone from caring for just me to caring for four people! Life has also changed for me because all the education and training that I have been in the previous has equipped me to be an essential mentor now for my children. 

Life has also changed because I am also learning about a world that I didn't know existed called Parenting! Lastly I truly honor the fact that this new life has re-sparked a fire in me that I had allowed to become dim!

5.Why do you think that as believers we should embrace our trials and tribulations?
As a believer I feel that we should embrace everything that we go through verses running over them to understand first what we are up against. Secondly to look at the situation and go in knowing that you control it and it don't control you. 

Then to go through the situation knowing that I am going to make the best of this, master it, and store this knowledge so that I can master it at the end. Lastly I would say that I would embrace them because in the end, I will get to see Victory!

Dear Complacent Church Members: You WILL NOT inherit the Kingdom!

Dear Complacent Church Members,

I am sick of you glorifying your pastor! Only going to a certain churches because of the name of pastor. Only going to certain churches because it's a networking opportunity. Did you know that you are worshiping man and not God? Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" Luke 4:8.You go church on certain holidays  to see celebrity performers. I have P.S.A. for you... just in case you didn't get it in your Sunday service. 

The Public Service Announcement is you WILL NOT inherit the kingdom! God does not care about how may committees you serve on.How can you make time to serve on a church committee but you can't make time for him. "I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds. Jeremiah 17:10 

He does not care that you worked your way into the pastors circle. He cares about one thing .... YOUR HEART. He is sick of COMPLACENT church members!

 He is sick of church members who turn their head when they see corruption. Church members who are to afraid to stand up to corrupt leaders because they will not be in the same clique. I have heard horror stories of women being seduced by leadership ...while church member's turned their head. I have heard stories of leadership stealing God’s money and showing favoritism to certain committees... while church members turned their heads. 

 I have heard stories of so called woman of God allowing their husbands to do as they please with other woman a.k.a. church members. They only  pretend to be upset when the entire church finds out. Then the church finds out and he is still the pastor the following Sunday. How do you as a member allow this mess to go on? Just so you know those who are called to higher purposes WILL PAY A HIGHER PRICE. Just so you know those who witness the mistreatment of their brothers or sisters and do NOTHING will pay a price. Why are you afraid to stand up to leadership? For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline 2 Timothy 1:7. 

Church is not a high school where popular kids determine who is cool or not! You sit in the pews EVERY SUNDAY like a zombie dressed in your Sunday's best ! Saying AMEN to everything the preacher says! Jumping up and down acting like a fool for no reason other than to show off your new praise dance. Sit your butt down and memorize a scripture! Stop playing church and trying to be seen! You think all that mess will allow you to inherit the kingdom? Think again! You are just as corrupt as the corruption you turn your eye to. If you are not being fed the word of God then you need to leave and find another home.

 How is it that you sit in church every Sunday but open you bible once a week? You barely know your table of contents of your bible but you know every secular song on the radio. Stop the shenanigans you are fooling No One! God sees and knows your true heart. How often do you  pray for your leadership? How often do you pray for yourself? If you can't pray yourself how dare you lay your hands on another member?

 To members who think it's cool to be friends with the first lady and the deacon. Leadership is not in place for you to be "friends" with. Leadership is there for one purpose and one purpose only to SAVE YOUR SOUL. Stop trying to fit in every leadership circle. Then you get in the circle and  see wrong being done you are too afraid to speak up. You watch you pastor pull up in the finest cars while the majority of the congregation is suffering or living check to check. There isn't enough money to help families in need but that doesn't stop the pastor from having a new suit every Sunday.

 

Get outta here and then you wonder why people are leaving the church? you too busy being entertained by your preacher to see that he/ she is kicking forcing the members to leave. You too busy trying to show off your church outfit while hashtagging  #churchflow your too busy trying to show people your christian but not living a Christ like lifestyle. Your too busy allowing the pastor to bash non- believers and sinners to realize your pastor is a fake. 

What man of God bashes another brother or sister in Christ? God is LOVE! GOD SHOWS GRACE AND MERCY! GOD IS COMPASSIONATE TOWARDS HIS CHILDREN! So who in the world gave you complacent church member the right to judge others. How dare you act high and mighty as if you poop don't stink. So you think by being a jerk to non- believers and sinners you will waltz into the gates of Heaven?

A homeless person can not sit by you without you feeling some type of way. A prostitute can not sit by you without you talking about her and moving away from her. The church is for sinners! That's why you are there. You Complacent church members God is very disappointed in you... your all all talk but no walk! You are hell bound so do not be shocked when God says he does not know you. Stop playing with God's children by trying to preach all these bible scriptures. trying to intimate other believers that you do not even know the voice of God.

 If you have heard the voice of God who told you to be a jerk to others? Just incase your pastor didn't tell you the above message now that you have read this blog... you are NOW HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS. You must repent and ask God for forgiveness! Apologize to those that you have hurt! Put your pride aside stand up for your brothers and sisters. otherwise your fate will be not different than that of your corrupt pastor.

The above message has approved by the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.!

PS, The church is to corrupt to be a place of worship God is very disappointed in the spiritual leaders and church members. His children have forgotten that "he that is without sin can throw the first stone." They have forgotten that ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE US.

Miss Cotton: Christian Comedian

Miss Cotton

Miss Cotton is one groovy chick she is a fan of the seventies and can often be seen rocking rainbows, tie dye shirts, or funky themed accessories. During one of Miss Cottons sets she had on a beautiful gold curly wig upon receiving the mic she told the audience “ Whew I don’t know about Yall but it’s hot in here!”. Shortly after making that announcement she removed her wig to reveal a shiny bald head. 

The audience sat in awe wondering what in the world was going on. Within moments Miss Cotton gave her testimony about how she lost her hair during her battle with Lupus. She mentioned she is not afraid to walk around bald headed and  began to go into her set about black women wearing weaves.

Miss Cotton is a jack of all trades she is a lupus survivor, hair stylist and comedian. Although she is jack of all trades she has a passion for making people laugh. She was first inspired to do comedy because she wanted to make people laugh in the mist of negative circumstances. It made her heart swell to see people laughing so hard that tears fell down their face.

Miss Cotton currently does clean comedy but her sets didn’t always revolve around family friendly jokes. Back in the day she use to have jokes that were uncut and more R rated. Miss Cotton went through a hard battle with Lupus and after recovering decided to use her God given gifts to make others smile. She began doing clean comedy a.k.a. Christian Comedy after she gave her life to Christ. Her jokes are definitely off the hook and definitely original.

Her goal is to give Christians an outlet to laugh at themselves but at the same time to not offend them. Miss Cotton’s jokes have a large range varying from “how thugs pray to God - to how pastors will use even a analogy about a cookie to create a sermon.” When asked why she decided to do Christian Comedy she told us “I wanted to be able to give God front row seats to all of my shows. I realized that I did not want to be a court jester for the devil.”

She mentioned that if you can laugh at your circumstances then it can give you the power to overcome them. With so many crazy things going on in the world she enjoys giving people an outlet to enjoy their self and be stress free. Even if they are stress free just for a moment... to her she not only served her purpose but she minister to them in her own special way.  Her story is truly inspiring and we hope that it blesses others.

What advice can you give to up and coming comedians?

To up and coming comedians, I would suggest that they learn their audience before they even go on the stage. Avoid jokes that would make someone feel bad or demean them in anyway. There is no need to curse to be funny. Stay true to yourself and create your own brand.

Do you look as your gift as a way to minister to others?

I most definitely use my gift as a way to minister. I always find a way to insert my testimony into my comedy act and to also share the news about Jesus Christ, and show other Christians that being saved can be rewarding and fun.

If you could change one thing about the way the church ministers what would it be and why?

If I could change one thing about the way the church ministers, it would be the way new Christians are received. There are a lot of people in pulpits with no discernment of the Holy Spirit. Instead of letting the voice of God lead them, they go off of the appearance of the people that they are preaching to without truly feeling their heart. There are a lot of hurting people in the church but they are overlooked because the focus is usually on the ones who already seem to have it together.

Do you see Christian based Comedy taking being a new trend in the years to come?

I wouldn't necessarily call Christian based comedy a trend but I do feel like people will start gravitating toward cleaning their comedy acts up to be more marketable.

Do you believe that having a great personality is the key to being a great comedian?

Anyone can be a good comedian, even with a bad attitude. To be a great comedian, the personality has to match. The spirit of excellence through integrity has to be present.

Kia Wilson: Fashion Model

Kia Wilson

A celebrated woman of outstanding talent, K. Wilson is a native to Dallas, Texas. She is an ambitious model with a lot of drive and passion when it comes being a top-notch model. In reference to experience, it can be said that she has experience in the business however; her wit, natural talent, determination, and motivation gives her skills that make her formidable to her more "seasoned" counterparts.

 When asked about what she hopes to accomplish she responded by saying, “I want to get signed with an agency and be able to walk the runway for top designers here in the United States and across seas. Kia also wants to be a name that everyone knows. 

Her aspirations to become a model started when she was a young girl. Everyone always told her that she would make a great model, so at the age of seventeen she applied for a agency. She was selected to join the agency however the agency was not a right fit for her. It turned out the agency was scam and just wanted to make a profit off of young people’s dreams. 

Her dreams were shattered temporarily but it did not stop her from pursuing her goals . Heartbroken maybe ...but she continued on her journey with her head held high. Having this experience caused her to become a Independent Model she began doing her  own research. After much research about the Fashion Industry and similar encounters with other agencies she was bound to figure out the right path to take. In her spare time she watched America’s Next Top Model and learned as much as she could from Tyra Banks a well known international model.

 She prays that all of her efforts will not be in vain, and she cannot wait to see what her future holds. Kia has been working diligently on her own and she has met some amazing people. She is a model who is confident and embraces her looks. Her dream in life, as any other human being is to be a star. However, the difference between her and those who feel the same is that she made the decision to go for her dream of being a model.

 This hasn't always been a easy path and definitely hasn't been the most profitable. Like any other person with goals and aspirations you can't put a price on a dream. Kia dreams of one day becoming a professional international model and landing a major contract with a well known agency. Eventually with hard work, Faith and Determination her goals will be met.

Although she lives a busy life style her number one priority is God and then her son. Aside from modeling Kia is also a Praise Dancer she started off dancing at church and soon people began to request her to perform at private events such as fashion shows, weddings and social events.  

A lot of models in the fashion industry can be arrogant and stuck up but not this model. Kia wilson has a humble spirit and she puts God first in everything that she does. During the weekday she is a elementary school teacher and by the weekend she is a Runway & Print model. 

On social media you can always find Kia posting positive and inspiring statuses. She is a rare find and we are truly honored to feature her in our blog. We at K.M. What are some of your accomplishments?

Some of my accomplishments within the industry include being a tour model for GPS Productions and The Beautiful You Fashion Tour. I've also had the opportunity to be a model for The Real McCoy Photography Digital Billboard, Raul Torres Fashion Week Top Model 2014, Dallas Plush model of the Year and also a feature model in MDPModels Magazine. I have also been Spokesmodel and Brand Ambassador for Luxe and Curves.

 In the past I also had the opportunity of being a Model Coordinator and Senior Coordinator for three shows and a runway coach. In the future, I hope to continue expanding my brand and networking to know more people that share the same goals as me. One can expect me to be fully trained, on time, and a professional model with a splash of fun and humor when working with me. I'm more than just a model; I'm a Role Model!

What advice can you give to new models starting their careers?

I would say do your research. Not every company that says they are an agency is truly an agency. In addition, you have to invest in yourself. You cannot expect others to believe or invest in you if you will not do it for yourself. Just remember that a no is not the end. A no just means that something better is waiting ahead and that no is one-step closer to YES. One last thing is nothing happens overnight. You have to have patience and put in the work.

Who are your top 5 favorite designers?

 My top five designers would have to be Gege Gilzene II of G3 Concepts, Rachael Al-Mahdi of Luxe & Curves, Rachelle Rocky Jackson of Rocky J, Samantha Adams of Sambie Fashions, and Terica Lee of Know More Clothing. This are designers I have worked with and are amazing at what they do. The each have their own individual unique style. What I love most about each of them is that they are humble and does everything in a spirit of excellence.

Do you prefer print or runway modeling more?

 I love doing both but if I had to choose one I would say runway. I love being able to walk down the runway with confidence and display someone’s designs. I’m a walking hanger for the designer and bringing their design to life. Doing runway allows for me to work with different individuals and I am also able to learn from other models as well.

What would you change about the fashion industry if you had the power?

 If I could change something about the fashion industry, it would be to unify everyone with in the industry. Just imagine how much of a force the industry would be if we all come together. There is enough for everyone to shine if we all can work together.

Where do you see yourself in two years?

 In 2 years I see myself signed with an agency. I also see myself giving back to the younger generation of those wanting to become models and teaching them the do and don’ts within the industry.

If you could model in any country where would it be and why?

I would want to model in France. It has always been my dream to go across seas and model.

If you could model in any fashion show what would it be and why?

 I would want to model in New York Fashion Week. To walk the runway of New York Fashion Week has always been a goal of mines. I will not stop trying until that goal has become a reality.
