Gabrielle Union's: Claps Back with a "State of the Union Address"







There were scores of monumental highlights throughout the course of the B.E.T. Awards 2016; known for honoring musicians, entertainers and community leaders.  A Genius Talks Event presented by AT & T, a pinnacle phenomenon, transpired on June 25-26, and ranked second to Rev. Jesse Jackson’s iconic lecture, as one of the most intellectual stimulating occurrences during the B.E.T. Awards. At the heart of the discussion at Genius Talks celebrities were provided the opportunity to address controversial topics. Some of the celebrities that voiced their opinion were  DJ Khaled, Snoop Dogg, Birdman and Jermaine Dupri. This platform provided during one of the most colossal happenings in black entertainment is epic; considering it grants African Americans the necessary time to shed light on taboo subject matters that continuously affects their interaction, both positive and negative, within society today.

Among those amazing celebrities, Gabrielle Union, talented actress and wife of basketball player Dewayne Wade, left the audience inspired with awe. Her transparency about the necessity for strong black female leads in Hollywood and the challenges women of color face in front of and behind the camera was nothing but the unadulterated truth.  She emphasized the importance about being proud of whom you are as an individual and understanding that you cannot be everything to everyone.
Union also shared a heartfelt testimonial of her first audition for a Tupac music video. She reflected that immediately upon meeting her, he noticed the something ‘greater’ in her, and asked why she was there. Therefore, taking it as a sign, she left the audition. Yet, Union still remembers the lasting impact it made upon her for someone to see what she didn’t even know yet.



It was quite refreshing to witness her speak out about issues that most would rake ‘under the rug’.
Furthermore, during the ‘Black Women in Hollywood’ dialogue with Union, host Meslissa Harris-Perry enlightened the audience about how she felt about another slave movie “We don’t need any more slavery depictions. I’m sick of seeing us as slaves.  I don’t want to see that anymore. We already had Roots, so why another slave film?”Union addressed Perry’s concerns … “Anytime you see us reflected in our history, it helps.  It helps us to see our own humanity and helps others to see our humanity.   There is no Oscar so white without our humanity.


 If you can’t see the humanity in a twelve year old child who was slaughtered in less than two seconds for doing things that kids do - playing with a toy gun alone in an open carry state; yet, you are outraged over Cecil the lion’s death and a gorilla - we need to see Roots! We’ve lost something along the way.”  I’ve asked myself that same question, “How can we humanize a gorilla but demonize and criminalize the parents of a toddler that are innocent?”  Union summed it up perfectly, proclaiming that, “We need Roots and Birth of a Nation. We need our stories told over and over and over again. If you cannot see our humanity in real life, you will never see our humanity in our art ever.”

Well, let the world say Amen!!! What Union said in less than two minutes addressed the core of the issues that our country faces today. I highly anticipate the opportunity to cover Genius Talk 2017 as it informed, as well as exposed truth on another level. Therefore, it is pivotal that we continue to expose positive light to the world’s dismal, discriminating, and devaluing debates.  Until next year … God Bless America!

The Era Fashion Show: Whitney Davis








On May 22, 2016 The Era Fashion Experience: Spring Edition took the fashion industry by storm. The event was a night of music, hair and obviously fashion pieces from some of the best designers in the D.F.W. area. The event was hosted and created by Whitney Davis of Whitney Davis Planning and it was flawlessly executed. Whitney Davis Planning was founded to help couples achieve their dream wedding through their "comprehensive  boutique management style and creative design".

In addition to planning weddings Whitney Davis Planning can assist you in any of your event planning needs. Whitney Davis believes that the phrase "Go Big or Go Home" is what takes her events, such as her latest fashion show, to the next level. Whitney Davis is already working on her next event, which will be October 15th, 2016...which gives us plenty of time to get those fabulous outfits together!'

What advice can you give to someone who is about to host their first
event? STAY GROUNDED AND ENCOURAGED! FOCUS ON THE THINGS YOU CAN CONTROL, NOT WHAT YOU CAN'T. AND STAY HUMBLED!

 What inspired you to host this event?
BECAUSE I FELT AT THE BEGINNING THAT IF I'M CONSIDERED "TOO SHORT" TO BE A
RUNWAY MODEL, I'LL CREATE MY OWN SHOW! AND SHOW WHAT THEY MISSED!LOL
AND TO SHOW A DECENT DALLAS BASED FASHION SHOW!

Taushey Sias: Gospel Singer





Taushey Sias is by far one of the best up and coming Gospel Singers I have encountered. She has a Mighty anointing on her life and where she goes so does the Holy Spirit. Although the Holy Spirit dwells in all of us Taushey is one artist that I can say is in tune with God. She not only gives God her praise and worship but she allows God to use her as a vessel. Don’t be shocked if one moment you are enjoying the beautiful sound of her voice and the next moment you are shouting and giving God glory.

When asked about her style of music she mentioned that “My style of music is churchy, jazzy, neo-soul contemporary and traditional worship. I want to bring something different to the Gospel Industry and to be relatable to everybody. I really don't mind being different and stepping out of the norm of what everybody is use to. I still want to convey a message and minister in the way that impacts people.”

She is what we would call a “ Minister of Music.” She definitely uses the gift of song to minister to others. Taushey has also accepted her calling as a minister she is currently taking a M.I.T. (Minister in Training) class at her church Ambassadors Today .  Her pastor is Dr. Regina Spellmon and her teacher is Elder Tami. Taushey told us that she is  grateful to be apart of a congregation with such great men and women of God.

Some Gospel singers can be serious and uptight but not Taushey. She loves to be around people and during her down time she enjoys cooking. She also enjoys making jokes and being a mother to her children.  Although Taushey is a Gospel singer and song writer her talent doesn’t stop there! She is the author of a up and coming book called Reflections verses Reality. This book is about how her goals and dreams have become her reality.

What advice can you give to musicians who want to give up?

My advice will be to pray about it and to take your feelings out of it. Remind yourself that the main reason for doing ministry is to help and encourage people. Some additional advice would be to have someone covering you and to have a great accountability partner. Whenever the pressure becomes unbearable these two people can encourage you and push you to keep going.

 If you could perform with any person who would that be and why?

 LeAndria Johnson, Why? Because before I made it to where I am musically. Her testimony encouraged me when I was at my lowest point in my life. We also share similar qualities in the way we sing and share the same story as far as having children out of wedlock. Neither one of us allowed our children to be an excuse not to follow our dreams. 

Also what's so ironic she was twenty-seven years old when she won Sunday Best.  I'm twenty-seven years old walking in my calling as a minister and recording artist. I just believe that we would have a spiritual bond because we went through similar things and God brought us through tough situations. I believe that the two of us on a record together would be crazy and anointed at the same time.

What is your favorite motivational quote?

I've learned that “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou

What is your favorite style of music and why?

 My main style of music is Jazz because there are no limits when you sing. You can be free and creative in your placements with minor chords and go back into the major key as if nothing ever changed with the music. Chords are so amazing! Especially when you sing Acapella. In my head I hear and sing what the musicians play. I can totally understand how I could be misunderstood. But I thank God for my ear and my musicality!!

What are the top 3 performances you are most proud of?

 The top 3 performances that I am most proud of would be in 2015 on New Years Day at Faith Temple in Dallas, Texas. My favorite singer Kim Burrell called me on stage and we sang together. She then layed hands on me and prophesied over me.

 I also had the opportunity to be one of the lead roles in the Promise play at the Potters House in Dallas, Texas. I performed alongside Crystal Aiken, Barbara Mitchell, and Kim Burrell.

Last but not least I was blessed to go to Detroit for the Vizions Talent Show. I performed in front of Karen Clark Sheard and Kierra Sheard. I placed 2nd and God surely had his way in that place. I was truly blowned away.

Do you have any events coming up?

The Celebration of the Gospel at The Remnant of Grace Cultural Center in Dallas, Texas at 6:30pm on June 25th. Tickets are $10 and $15 at the Door.

June 26th at 1:00 at the Loan Star Park for the National Anthem. One God, One Praise June 26th at 6:00pm at Artist Boot Camp Studios  $10 for Adults and $8.00 for kids ages 6yrs-12yrs.

 July the 9th at 7:00pm iAM Gospel Talent Competition Lake Bethlehem Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Tickets for $10.

Terra Jackson: 369 Events



Today I was given the opportunity to blog about a thriving company that is taking the Dallas-Fort Worth area by storm. 369 Events was created in January of 2016 and has been on the roll ever since. 369 Events was founded by Lucia Anderson of Verse Staffing & Consulting along with Terra Jackson of Terra Jackson Consulting .This non-profit organization was created after they noticed there was a lack of resources available for new entrepreneurs.
I know you may be wondering what is 369 Events...well, I am going to tell you! 369 Events is a personal development non-profit organization and their main objective is to take the everyday business professionals to the next level. So if you are ready to take your business to the next level mark your calendars the next event is June 25th!


The event is a mixer where you will be able to network and gain lots of information about having a successful business. It will be held at 2775 Villa Creek Drive, in Dallas Texas for 1:00 to 4:00 pm CST so make sure you’re free during those hours. 

When asked the inspiration behind 369 Events Ms. Jackson stated "I believe MOST entrepreneurs in their first five years need a lot of help and they don't know where to go or they lack resources. So Lucia and I wanted to create a lane for those people. Events such as the one mentioned above are a great way to get out and meet like-minded business professionals.”

What would you do differently at your next event? We wouldn't wait for guest, speakers and/or vendors to show up on time. We would start at the designated event time to stay on schedule.

Do you believe in the phrase “ Go Big or Go Home”? ABSOLUTELY, If you do not believe in your dream no one else will. So no matter what you're doing you must give it your all or bow out gracefully. 

Why do you think it’s important for the community to have events such as yours? Lack of RESOURCES and the ability to build with and along one another.

What advice can you give to someone who is about to host their first event? Be prepared for lack of support and do not let it stop you from going through with your event. Progress not perfection. Stay consistent and stay committed. Your hard work will not go unnoticed.
